This is more of an event report than an invite. Taxeis Plataion attended this excellent little event at the invitation of Legio IIII Flavia Felix.
We started Friday night on Ray's excellent site, a family farm with a small marching fort built in the corner of a large hay field.
The event included period atheletics (Javelin throws, running 6 stades, running 2 stades in armour), archery, mock combat, and a great deal of cooking and a certain amount of wine....

Some of the hoplites
Some fool attacking a legionary with a Harmodius blow (that'd be me...)
A better armed hoplite goes for the same legionary...

I was sorry to hear about the event after it was over. Your hoplites look great and I wonder what other events your group does? TQS Legio XXX

In terms of Roman groups, it wasn't really open to any other ones. It was for my group alone essentially as a first event of the year to get kit and such sorted out.

That's why it is so essential that we put together some world-wide Greek events. But int he mean time--Needlefelt and a certain willing ness to hang out with Romans will build commonality. I think that here in North America, we should be able to lump "ancients" together as wargaming does, and have group events.
We're lucky in the Plataaians--we have fifty people in our Rev War group, and it's been easy to convince them to "cross over."

A few more photos... thanks for all the compliments, too!
The Flavia Felix smith
A slinger bombards one force--there's another ten behind him. By this time, we're mixing hoplites, Thracians, and Romans to get a ten vs. ten side.

Shooting behind a shield--one of the coolest things we tried. (Remember, we're ARCHAIC hoplites!)
The camp. the small marching fort is a really good site for a small event. Twenty five of us filled the ground.

Looked like a fun weekend!
Your camp must be a decent size, ours is only big enough for acouple of tents and a small display area.

Welcome to the time period. If there is any thing my group (LEGIO XXX) can do to help let us know. We will be at Amhurstburg and Ray's in Sept.
