A bit more progress on the top scabbard plate. The hearts were made using two holes from a whitney punch and then small cold chisel to punch out the rest with a final clean up with files.

It's a real beauty!
How thick is the brass you used for these plates?

Nice work (again) Baz! You are probably quite close in your method of using punches and chisels to re-create the patterns. Looking at the original piece, especially the 'heart' shapes, you can see the use of round punches and triangular ones that made the cutouts.
Note the remains of tinning...

That is a great picture Ade! Tinning. Shiny
I had to slight adjust all the proportions when compared to the original because my scabbards a bit narrower. Jurjen I am using brass that is about 0.8mm thick. I have a feeling that the original plate may be a little thicker than this? Well here it is with the scribed border and cleaned up a lot more:

Thanks Brennivs - good point but thankfully I thought about that and have left a little play! I am going to use goat skin leather for the lining of the scabbard so it is pretty thin too.
Any tips on dyeing leather?

Sometimes I use scraps of leather to gauge fit, then take off to fully leathere. If the leather is a bit tight you can smooth the leather down with a hot spoon over the area in question, I just warm it with my torch

The wooden scabbard has now been covered with veg tan goat leather which has been dyed cherry red.
Here are a couple of shots showing how it is looking with the parts in place:
