Warrior Departure Scenes in Attic Red-Figure Pottery
#16
I didn't justify that statement, I just said there was an analogy between the red-figured vases and the white-ground lekythoi, with the expressions of distress in mind, and the way the scenes are composed.

I told you it was a bit far-fetched. Smile

See you on the Festival, Stefanos!

I have not spent months gathering Hoplites from the four corners of the earth just to let
some Swedish pancake in a purloined panoply lop their lower limbs off!

I can't wait!

If we have enough Ekdromoi, Peltasts and lightly armored hoplites there's quite a reason to re-create the Battle of Leuktra!

This is the Chorus for Dionysos...

This guys seems to wear spolas? Helmets are visible.

Did greek warriors performe this before battle, or its just a play scene?

Not sure about helmts. They seem to wear elaborate chitons and a type of perizoma Not sure if the size of the image helps.

I suspect a play scene but steps and style like that survive in the Greek folk dance Sera that may say is the evolution of Pyrrichios.

Thanks Stefanos, I made it giant for you to see it...

Seems helmet without crest, cheek piede are visible, some look like caps, I suspect if is a play, can they use fake helmet as today for plays?

I bet that is not recored

Thanks for posting the shot, Stefanos!

This scene is not based on a particular vase, neither had the characters involved - from left to right, Olga (Stefanos' better half) portraying the Hoplite's wife / mother, Paul Allen portraying the Hoplite, and Stefanos, as the Hoplite's father, assumed their positions at the point the picture was taken.

This is something I would like to continue working on... beholding such a creation sort of revolutionizes the way you analyze the scene. It gives you an idea of what taking leave of the loved ones was like back then. Smile

It is not a phrygian cap. It is the felt cap of central Greece.
I were a linen headband reinforced with white silken thread for the helmet.

Now, WHERE is our Thespian? I haven't seen him online since getting back home.
