Covering rivet bottoms on inside of Scutum.

After some advice before I leap into the unknown please. I intend to cover all rivet bottoms with either paper masking tape or cut pieces of Linen to tidy up the inside of the Scutum I am looking for advice as to what is best, and if linen, the best glue to use. The paint is Coo-var red oxide metal primer. We use many rivets in our groups Scututa....see pic. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Kevin
