Shoes, shoe patterns

the 'flip-flops' are made in 4 pieces.<br>
insole and sole<br>
upper band and strap between the upper band and insole.<br>
<br>
the strap basically an elongated T-shape.<br>
the long piece passes through in the insole [the cross of the T holding the strap in place].<br>
the long piece also passes through a hole on the upper band and is then knotted,<br>
<br>
the two ends of the upper band are sandwiched between the insole and sole.<br>
<br>
I based them on the pair from vindolanda - see gashfords post above, and the method of joining the soles on a reference to slightly later styles of Roman shoes-<br>
<br>
I made several comprimises-<br>
1] time<br>
2] never made then before<br>
3] material available<br>
4] my lack of skill<br>
<br>
<br>
but I would say they make a change from the usual carbatinae<br>
<br>
I could probably do a bit better next time.......but currently trying my hand a 'fell boots'<br>
<br>
