The wearer of the peacock crested helmet in the mosaic is a king, Priam or Agamemnon?, this would accord with the later Byzantine use of the toupha. This was a helmet-crown with a peacock feather crest worn by emperors as triumphant generals. It is shown on a 10th century textile, being presented to a victorious Byzantine emperor (possibly John I Tzimiskes).
