Our latest update:
We have an official permit from the Town of Marathon, which includes permission to camp int he pine forest on the beach (photos on the web site.) Giannis is working (Giannis is working very hard!) to get the Archaeological service to allow us some special access, and I'm trying to get the same via the Ministry of Culture. On a negative note, the latest cabinet reshuffle has put us back to zero with the Ministry of Culture--but on a positive note, we have discovered that all we need to march and drill in the Agora is a Police permit, and that seems to be on its way. These, and many other issues, are being worked simultaneously.
If you are coming, we need you to register. increasingly it is obvious that we will have to buy our own straw and perhaps even our own drinking water; we discovered yesterday that we'll be paying for the chemical toilets on site. Given Greece's level of financial crisis, that makes sense. So please, everyone, expect a small fee--don't imagine we're making money, here--more like a mess bill.
E-mail me if you have any questions, check out the website at http://marathon2011.hoplologia.org/index.html and COME TO MARATHON
