Right - What I was implying with the "Persian Pyjamas" comment was that just by donning outfit does not make you a re-enactor. Your implication was that "Hey it's an open event come get your kit from us and join in the bundle!!"
No way will anything like that EVER happen. It's asking for trouble. If there is going to be a large number of people taking part discipline and order is paramount.
"Persian Pyjamas" well over here in the UK we would call that a humerous description of what the Persians used to wear - a joke Giannis :wink: - The Scythians in the H.A. refer to their kit as pyjamas - all clear now??
What about individual re-enactors like you??? What about your insurance?? There is no re-enacting in Greece?? Take some responsibilty, do some research.
What do the Hoplites Mores and Stephanos do then?? Tours of the Acroplis on a Sunday afternoon with attitude?? :? lol:
One thing re-enactment teaches you is that stuff doesn't happen if you don't take action to help it along. You become self-reliant and seek out solutions. You collaborate and work with people rather than work against them.... and life goes a lot smoother as a consequence. (Thanks Andy).
What you need to do Giannis is join a group. Have you had any practical experience at all? How do you think WE can help you? We have had this discussion before. Once you do this you will begin to understand how much is involved in organising and planning events. You also assume large numbers - At present this whole project is very much in it's infancy - we have no idea of numbers and therefore cannot start making big plans for ranks and phalanxes blah blah blah.........
My own opinion is that we start by thinking about drill displays, learning a common drill book so we all understand basic commands and manouvres and then and only then think about other ideas.
That is why it has been suggested that those who wish to participate should think seriously about joining legitimate groups - the logistics then begin to get easier. Read the posts more thoroughly Giannis before going off on one.
Yes we have had events with children involved but this is strictly regimented and controlled by members of the group who know what they are doing and it is limited to controllable numbers within our display area.
Finally you comment about John - It was YOU that made the suggestion about age - 18-20 - you said, which propmted John's dissappointment - hence my post and Christian's post. Both of which were meant to lift his spirits by way of encouragement. Neither of us in any way have or would ever wish to exclude him or anyone for that matter and I think my post encouraged the opposite.
Now let's get back on track and start being sensible eh?
