Greetings!
I used to play Eagles by GDW (later republished by Avalon Hill as Caesar's Legions) and enjoyed it. Still have their other Roman game Pharsalus but have never played it (still unpunched). These are similar to the GMT line but on an operational level rather than tactical.
Also have a copy of AH's Siege of Jerusalem and it too is a fun game. Some time ago I spoke to the guys at GMT about doing a new version of this battle (giving it the "GMT Treatment") and they seemed receptive to the idea, but nothing has come of it.
Likewise I contacted Mr. Berg about doing an update of his popular game Druid, but he doubted GMT would consider it a profitable venture.
Too bad -- I think GMT could publish a series of linked games (or a main game system with expansion sets) based upon the Decade Of Turmoil that was the 60's. What with major revolts in both the East & the West and civil war during the Year of the Four Emperors it could make for quite a series of games. Given the GMT Treatment they could be both fun to play and impressive just to look at.
Otherwise the current hit around our house is that old war horse Conquest Of The Empire by Milton Bradley. In fact we are probably going to play tonight -- my grandson loves to be Egypt and from that strong province he usually wins. :wink:
