Quote:Wiesbaden Museum (stuff from Hofheim, the remains of the Imperial-Gallic D helmet, and the tombstones of Dolanus, Muranus, Clemens & Sabinus, Valerius Crispus, and Licaius) must be top of your list if you are only staying in Wiesbaden. Hop on the S-Bahn to Mainz, however, and there is much more to see, including the RGZM – the Roman gallery of Landesmuseum is apparently closed at the moment – and the Schifffahrtsmuseum (some websites seem to have a problem with the number of 'F's in there; there ought to be three, since it's a compound noun, but hey ho, who cares...): you'll be spoiled for choice. You could even stroll over to the Drususstein. Anyway, there's loads of Roman Mainz to keep you busy and probably enough to make you want to go back (no bad thing) – I am an unashamed Germanophile anyway, but I really like Mainz, so I'm probably biased...;-) ) .

Sorry for the belated reply Mike and many thanks for the suggestions and links. It's going to be a flying visit to Wiesbaden (4 days, all tied up with a business conference) and I'm staying at a rather plush manor house outside town, so I may not be able to get to the museum there. But I'm staying an extra day so I can head to Mainz and try to cram as much sightseeing in as I can before I fly out of Frankfurt.
I suspect this will just make me want to go back.
