Mursa - Osijek
#1
Hello all,

I am looking for a detailed map of Roman Mursa in Pannonia, especially its walls, streets and its amphitheatre. Can someone refer to literature containing such maps and maybe more info about the Roman town and its amphitheatre.

Thanks for any help!

Ave Natuspardo,

I am writing a novel set during the time of Constantine. I have also been looking for such a map.

I think perhaps I will write to the museum there and see if they can direct me to some. Perhaps they have a display of Roman Mursa that they can send me a photo.

If I find one I will surely let you know.

I have some doubt that such a map exists. Mursa was eradicated between the 5th and 7th centuries, and much later the Turks built a new citadel (I guess) on top of the remains. Add to that a modern town and the net result could well be that the Roman street plan is not well-understood.

I hope you prove me wrong though. :?

It would be of great help if I would know where the amphitheatre was -

Best I can do:

The Roman roads are easy to identify, and a plan of sorts can be assumed. But the amphitheater... Cry
