Third century cavalry impression

as promised to Robert/Valerius ("promissio boni viri est obligatio") in the thread "A sketch", here it is the "revised" version.<br>
By the way can you late Romans out there (Robert, Aitor, ...) suggest any appropriate shield pattern? I didn't find much about, but maybe some Notitia Dignitatum could help. For the next one, of course...<br>
And please tell me which other details could be corrected or improved.<br>

Shield patterns, well, you could take a look at Luke Ueda's site about [url=http://www.ne.jp/asahi/luke/ueda-sarson/NotitiaPatterns.html" target="top]Late Roman Shield Patterns taken from the Notitia Dignitatum[/url] and look up the shield designs from the Master Equitum. They're a bit crude, but they'll give you a good idea.<br>

Details to be corrected? Well, the guy on the right could do with a much longer lance. The officer could do with a bit longer spatha, I think, and maybe you want to give all of them round cavalry shields? Of course it's not wrong, but these seem rather better suited for the infantry.<br>

Not fully round yet! You know that, IMHO, all Roman shields were round from late Third century onwards but, by mid-century, like the Dura shields attest, they were still oval.<br>
In any case, not so elongated as you've depicted them, Flavius, and always a little dished.<br>

It's just a game for me, I try to imagine something original about the legionary's or cavalryman's real life...<br>
Uwe, yes, Faber-Castell coloured pencils (but also Derwent ones are very good)! I stole them to my son (8 years) and he seemed very disappointed for this, so I was forced to buy him pencils again...<br>
