Agreed, it does look very suspect, particularly when there are no other concrete examples. But there were a number of belt fittings from Dura that featured loops for hanging, 4thC style. For dagger? Or pouches?

Salve Andy,
I'm the one that Byron was talking about who has been lots of leather work.. i am getting better... haha, still lots of room for improvement, but i have helped one of the girls in our group doing a loculus, and i done dozens of little leather pouchs, I would be more than happy to give you a hand in person and also give you access to my tools for any projects you want to do.
Drop me a PM and we can sort something out!
Welcome to the Forums!

It has a page devoted to leatherwork in general. Have fun!

Matthew,
was really interested in your site, particularly the Leather tent that you guys made, do you have any of the original drawings / dimensions of the tent?
Cheers

Just get yourself a copy of the article "New Light on Old Tents" by Carol van Driel-Murray, in Volume 1 of the Journal of Roman Military Equipment Studies ([url:dljp3gee]http://www.jrmes.org[/url])
I would but that URL is broken, i did try that first
