Leather belt construction

What ounce or thickness leather would you use for this?

I think I will go with about 1.5 mm leather as that was where my test piece was made of and behaved pretty nice. I think using 1 mm is thin, but maybe a will make another test piece next week from 1mm goat leather, who knows.
