Re: Show your roman belts? - Peroni - 09-25-2007 @ Barry.. You can buy dyed-thru veg tanned leather from Le Prevo and from Keith Lyons in Northampton. @ Paul.. I think that would work. Re: Show your roman belts? - Franklin - 09-25-2007 Quote:Back.. Gorgeous stitching Ade. Does this design come from someplace in particular? Is there evidence for this kind of belt decoration in the artistic or archaeological record? Either way I'm still envious. Somebody has mentioned before that there should be a green-blushing emoticon for just these occasions. Re: Show your roman belts? - Peroni - 09-25-2007 Hi Franklin, It's speculative for the later period, but the stitching is based upon the patterns that were stitched into a third century baldric IIRC from Vimose(?) If it was used in that period I think it is reasonable to speculate that it would have also been used later too. Re: Show your roman belts? - TITVS SABATINVS AQVILIVS - 09-25-2007 Can anyone tell me why, (while many of you can) I cannot see the Adrian belts pics? Valete, Re: Show your roman belts? - Peroni - 09-25-2007 PM sent Daniele.. Re: Show your roman belts? - Et tu brute - 09-25-2007 Here are a few pics of my late (4th/5thc) roman belt, made by Andy Harriss. http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l57/F ... Cheers Caballo PS They are now- thanks, Dave. Great stuff! Re: Show your roman belts? - Et tu brute - 09-25-2007 No? I'll change them to links and see if that works. Re: Show your roman belts? - Crispvs - 09-25-2007 Peronis, I must say - you have done a very nice job on that belt! One of these days I need to upgrade my early fourth century belt to a similar standard. Only one thing though. I had been led to believe that the small plate you used the attach the thin strap was a second century AD plate. Can you advice further? Crispvs Re: Show your roman belts? - Peroni - 09-26-2007 Yes it is! it's Antonine period. Nodge confirmed this earlier. Something that was passed down in the family! Re: Show your roman belts? - Caballo - 09-26-2007 Open plate belts dated at 280+ were also found at Richborough and in Spain (see JRMES vol 10, Fourth Century Roman belt fittings from Richborough, Malcolm Lyne and Late Roman Belts in Hispania by Joachim Fernandez. Some of the designs (especially from Spain) were very new to me- would look great reproduced....... .. Re: Show your roman belts? - Peroni - 09-26-2007 Do you have pics you could send or post here Caballo? Re: Show your roman belts? - Caballo - 09-26-2007 Hi, Email sent!
