Theo, I love, I really love, that red tunic of yours.
My orbuculli are red, but a slightly pinkish red. The colours on the photo are awful, indoor lighting. I hope to get a full costume photo this weekend.

If any advantage is on painting/printing it is that you can choose exactly accurate patterns for the patches (A difficult task, often misleading due to the big bulk of so-called 'Coptic' textiles, which are several centuries younger than the periods we portrait... :roll: )

This is the new Herculiani embroided tunic by Verina. Full of of work on this pattern but the result is very nice (what a luck for arbatio...)

Yes Mithras, it's directly painted on the tunic. It's such an easy thing to do. For the embroideries it's not that complicated if you use wool (thick enough).

And yes they are purple. They only look black because of the light.

Could you please post details of that beautiful 'blue' tunic?
Be careful with the use of square 'tabulae' insets. AFAIK, they weren't employed on tunics earlier than late fourth century. For earlier impressions, round 'orbiculi' would be more appropriated... :wink:
Oh, BTW, my Mum is finished the second reconstruction of the Damendorf trousers, this time using more accurate handwoven herringbone twill, furnished by Cacaius.

Here is one of the new tunics from the Minervii - hand sewn an hand stitched. The size bases on the tunics that are conserved complete, like the ones in krefeld or cologne (collection columba). The pattern from the orbiculi is taken from a find from Palmyra, 3. century, the pattern of the clavi is added in the same style, but modern. The linnen of the tunic is a 100year old hand woven linnen, the cloth of the clavi is linnen to, but modern and attached to the tunic after the pattern was stitched on it.
