What was the reason for making the grip in three pieces of wood, instead of just one? Just curious. Re: Replicas for the museum at Monterenzio (Italy) - hephestus - 10-17-2009 Quote:Una bella cosa! In this case for estetic, but the archaeologist and the restorer told me that it is possible in some specimens grip "tang"(codolo in italian), remnants of wood are also several pieces, some to 2 faces with up nine nails. Do you have thined the board down towards te edges? I am not so shure about the shape of the shield, is this copyed from somewhere, or does have the finds of these peticular iron edgings dictated the shape?? Yust wandering... Re: Replicas for the museum at Monterenzio (Italy) - jvrjenivs - 11-14-2009 wow, on those images on your website I see you made this shield out of a single piece of wood. Wonderful! Very nice. Re: Replicas for the museum at Monterenzio (Italy) - hephestus - 11-14-2009 Quote:This is nice work hephestus. Thanks folks. The shape was determined by the iron reinforcement (the only relic). Is there an actual design in the museum and I was delivered by Prof. Daniele Vitali (archaeologist). This is the form that he has derived from the excavation. If you translate the page explains the reconstruction and derivation. For the form, are the indications of the archaeologist. Valete Re: Replicas for the museum at Monterenzio (Italy) - M. Demetrius - 11-14-2009 It's hard to find wood that wide and free of knots and blemishes. I'll bet it cost more than a bowl of spumoni, didn't it? Re: Replicas for the museum at Monterenzio (Italy) - hephestus - 11-14-2009 Hi Demetrius, is cheap, considering that 500 years. Of course I bought many tables I was lucky Vale friend Re: Replicas for the museum at Monterenzio (Italy) - Gaius Julius Caesar - 11-18-2009 That would do a fair amount of damage on its own!
