Hallo David! Es ist hier Forumsregel, daß Du Deinen Namen in Deine Signatur einfügst. Das funktioniert über den link oben "user control panel".

Nice stuff! You should post the pics of the cut-through section of your Roman bow here as well... Big Grin

As can be seen under his links David makes excellent Roman bows. Once he cut one of those bows in half to be able to demsonstrate the construction... ^^

Hi David,

I like your arrow, well done. What is the length of the fletch? I use a 15 cm parabolic fletch based on the Duro finds. Do these heavy bodkins fly well? I am presently trying to get some trilobates developed.

Those are wonderful looking arrows, I agree. Nice bow, as well. I am assuming it is an actual composite, not the fiberglass kind.

Right now, since my composite project is on hold until I find the time to get back to it, I am planning on building an Egyptian-style self bow. I have a nice maple stave that is crying out to be made into a bow, so it seems happier now that it has a bright and shining future Smile Legio III was stationed in Alexandria, and I am making an assumption that the legios would take advantage and adopt local customs and practices.

That's a very nice bow, David

Here's a portion of the scene on the Orlat Battle Plaque, c. 100-70 BC. It shows the Yuezhi fighting the Sakarauli. Notice the early draco, asymmetrical bow, Niya-styled case, Sarmatian Type I Longsword, and Chinese jade scabbard slide. Big Grin

The Orlat Battle I know .
Experts consider on the plate a illustration of a battle .

Would be another interesting presentation .

But I have no horse .. Confused

Yes, the Orlat Plaque is 1/2 of an ivory belt buckle. It shows the famous battle fought in 129 BC. The Yuezhi won the battle and took Kangju from the Sakarauli. Both pieces of the buckle were found in Sogdiana and are extant. The other buckle half shows a hunting scene. Here, is the complete battle scene:

Have a good one! Smile

It iis already an old cut through the bow, then the side are destroyed.
Many children and students had the last 10 years this cross-section in hands.
There is a bow that I built with bamboo core!
The other sin , of course, with wood core .. Wink
No plastic...

Old pictures of another bow under construction...

But will delete the images .
There is too much copied my work......

Thank you for posting the photos of you're experiments in bow-making. Do you use hide glue or fish glue? Smile

Thanks, David

I thought you would use fish glue; it's the best... especially sturgeon bladder glue. Wink
