Double belt apron question.

Hi,
I'm looking into putting together an early imperial double belt and was wondering, which of the belts (pugio/gladius) would the apron attach to?
Or does it matter?

I think on almost all the grave steles that are known the apron is attached to the belt with the pugio.

Also, the pugio belt with the apron usually is seen being worn first, the sword belt on second, with the sword belt over the pugio/apron belt.

Please note, and you can really see this very clearly in each example, the pugio is often attached directly to (or strapped very, very tightly) to the frogs, not dangling on a long piece of leather.

Definitely the pugio belt that your apron should attach to.

Not argueing about which belt to attach to Jim! I actually see a few more in his article wit hthe pugio belt over the sword belt! Must have been a morning rush thing maybe? Or just personal taste!
But definately the pugio is always on the aproned belt!

Attached to the back of the pugio belt. Typical Rhineland apron belt. That's a pugio on his left hip - You can see the gladius on his right hip in the full gravestone.

I'm also quite sure someone, sometime, during the history of the Roman Empire wore two pugios, two swords, or attached everything to one belt.... it's just most examples show two belts with the pugio attached to the apron belt etc.

That is what I was saying, however it may have been interpreted!
