Salve,
I am wondering how some of you are getting such clear images in place as your avatar... everytime I shrink a hi-res image of myself, it gets all pixellated by the time I get it down to 6 MB.
How do you do it?

Do not shrink the whole image, first cut out the part you want, then shrink it and only then use the compresion option for web, taking it down to 91 DPI and save it as a JPEG file. At lease, that more or less worked for me.

If you want, you can send me the original large image and I'll cut it to size for you.

Your avatars look bigger than 100x100... is there leeway for that as long as you are under 6 KB?

I started a long time ago, and my avatar too. I kept the same picture, but I'm sure that if I started anew, I would have to downsize it. Mea culpa.

"I kept the same picture"
Ooh - you liar and scoundrel!
I've seen at least three images used as your avatar over the last three and a half years. Then again, you may even have briefly changed your avatar when there was that competition a couple of years ago to see who could come up with the silliest version of their face for an avatar as well.

Yep, that was me! Behind the scaffolding, to the right of the tracks. I keep goosing the workers to speed up the schedule already; but not too many listen to the twelve anymore...
