Linen for shield fronts?

Is there evidence wether the Greeks in the late classical or early hellenistic time used linen to cover the front of shields?

A round pelte is constructed for me and I wonder wether linen could be a possible cover.

If linen was used in that period i don't know.
But i can assure you that it works very well on shields.
It holds good even on the shields we u use for showfight.

A plausible scenario: wickerwork covered with linen layers the external layer could be treated with pine raisin for waterproofing.
You didn´t also nee to kill an animal to get hide.
Could have happened since basket makeing could be awider ranging skill than carpentry and metal working.
Interesting option for a psilos who could have looted the lined if he could not afford it.
