A riders bow! Your opinion?

Quote:Hehe. This thread is particularly intresting for me, as one who is looking to buy a first bow in the next few months. This bow would be used for reenactment (Comitatus), maybe next year, i'm not sure when i'd be ready to participate in a show. I've been looking at a few (with the help of John Conyard) mostly Hunnic ones. Forgot to mention, this would be Horse Archery.

I can recommend a 40 pound bow tops (perhaps a 30 pounder would be perfect?) for horse archery. Grozers scythian or avar models coud be good choices perhaps? They are affordable, easy to handle on horseback (short) and fast to shoot with. Heavier bows reguire a more standing position and some "wriggling" of the body which is not possible (or anyway much more difficult) on horseback...

I've spoke to John about the Scythian, but it wouldn't be suitable for the Comitatus time period, it's because the Scythian bows lack the "ears" that appear on the later roman bows, but i've seen a few hunnic and laminated bows that would fit the part perfectly Smile

Dave, check out this web-site:
http://www.bowshop.eu/?alcs=24
I have ordered my last two bows from here, the selection of the bows is good, they are the most affordable I have found yet and the customer service is very good (Peter Molnar).... In fact I am waiting for my latest bow to arrive right now (tracking it with a number code, it should be out from Denmark to Finland right now  ...)

Yes, John recomended them to me, they do seem to be very good, and at excellent prices, i've been looking at the Hun "Deer" which seems to be a very good bow.

Kassai bows are made in the same style as Grozer bows, you can consider them as a cheaper version of Grozer bows. I think Kassai was Grozer's student Smile ... Usually they are both available at the same seller.

Yes Theo, it is the "Kassai" himself  ! I considered of buying a bow from there first but the delivery costs were outrageous 80 EURO`s Confusedhock: !!!! From bowshop.eu (the bows are coming from the manufacturer from Hungary, via Austria) the delivery costs are only 25 EURO`s Big Grin !!

I have shot both Kassai`s and Grozer`s bows and both are of high quality!

80 Euros delivery? Confusedhock: That'll be almost half the price of the bow! How can they justify that if others are only charging 25-40?

I can definately understand why!

edit - I've just looked at the deliverry charges and it appears that for shipping to Britain it would only be 46 Euros, but like you said, for Finland it is just over 100!

It's strange though, that Greece for example is much closer to Hungary than Britain, (I know distance isn't the only factor) so it really should be a fair bit cheaper on the postage side.
