There is a hint in the article to an uprising in the first century in Wales which lasted 30 years. Confusedhock:

Is this correct? Can someone give some more details about this?

Probably the Roman attempt to catch Caratacus and his Silures/Ordovices hill guerillas.

Well the article seems to suggest that the fort was built after the 30 year guerilla war:

'was built about AD100, after the Romans had suffered heavy casualties in a 30-year war against Welsh guerrillas'

This would fly in the face of the evidence of the conquest of all Wales by Sextus Julius Frontinus and Agricola - it is highly unlikely that Agricola would have campaigned in Scotland leaving an incomplete conquest and guerilla war in his rear.

More likely are smaller vexillations at around that period to cover the withdrawal of troops for Trajan's Dacian campaign. (I don't know if there is evidence for such detachments of troops from Britain but it would seem possible - Parker (Roman Legions 156-157 says we know very little of the 12 legions which made up Trajan's forces but it is possible he used detachments form 'peaceful' provinces to cover the absence of tropps in Germany etc).

Also doesn't the stone rebuilding at Chester date to around the same time? So possibly a reorganization of where and what forts were.

Cheers
