I saw it on TV a few nights ago, Is that a true story?I couldn't figure out any names, except maximus.

Some of the gladiator stuff is somewhat accurate, but I doubt they had chariots in the colloseum, and why did one guy have a corinthian helmet. My dad said the colloseum was accurate. But for some reason, It reminded me of the rookie. I only saw the pg-13 version because it was on TV.

They did have chariots from time to time, but most likely not that type...more likely the British "Celtic" type. That's what the Essedarii were: charioteers.

There were occasions when there were larger spectacles in the big arenas, mock battles between different armies, even navies sometimes. But mostly, the bouts were one vs. one.

I heard, in the making of the movie, that when Marcus Aerilius died and Commodus became Emperor that a general in the north did run for his life.

The coliseum was accurate except for the colomons with in the arena.

Those weren't columns, they were metae. Three metae marked the end of the spina in a circus and the chariots turned around them. I don't know how they walked across town and parked themselves in the colosseum. Watch Ben-Hur to see metae in their natural environment.
