I have the project to put on a 5-6th century early irish impression aswell. When Ill be done with my 5th century saxon, 9th century breton, 10th century breton and 11th century breton :wink:

Very nice, Paul. I also like yout torque Also good to see more civilian activities (done by men of military age). We happen to have less of that on most events.

Jurjen, my preference is for civilian crafts rather than military, though I do have a shield and spear ready for when the clan is called to war by the chief! I'd like a sword, though, for when I do wear that rich cloak and torc.

I'd like a closer look at that hand sickle. I've got that on my to do list for someday in the future, as a part of making bread from seed to crop to harvest to flour to oven.

Certainly .. I'll dash out now ....

Its a generic design, not based on a particular British iron-age find. But its a very effective design with a nice long handle. Made by a local blacksmith specialising in the Saxon-Viking period. On my to-do list is getting hold of a rotary quern and grinding my own wheat, not quite so seed to bread as your project though.

Thanks! I'll estimate that the "circle" is about 12" or so, and the handle around 18", with the widest part of the blade being ab out 1 1/2". Is that pretty close? Around 1/8" thick at the unsharpened side back by the base? I'm not trying to hijack the thread, though. My project will take about a year or so to complete, since I have to make the tools to till before I plant, harvest before I thresh, you know. There's always something else to do...not to mention the three or four months for the wheat to come to maturity. Might be able to get a start this Spring. If you'll PM me with an email address, we can move any other questions off line.
