I'd just wear a sagum cloak. Here's a pic of me in mine:

And my friend Austin:

The cool thing about the seggie and probably the hamata is that you can "fling" it over and back completely over your shoulders, or have it drape down in front.

On how to make a sagum, go here:

For measurements, most wool is available in 60" wide bolts...so just measure yourself from head to toe for length, and you're golden. For colours, you can go brown or natural wool, green, blue and red. All are attested for in the records.

To what do you attach the sagum in front to keep the weight of the cloth from dragging it down, and binding across the throat?

I just use a fibulae to close it off, and the natural shape of the armour seems to hold it in place pretty well, so it doesn't seem to choke me. Plus you could always hook the leading edge of the cloak kind of under or around the shoulder guards if need be.

By Centurions I am assuming you mean in the early empire. Centurions could also wear a cloak called a Paludamentum. This was possibly rectangular like the Sagum but with perhaps the corners cut away and rounded off. None survive as far as I know but if they were similar in size to the Sagum they would be around 2.66m long by 1.77m wide.

The Paludamentum was worn over the left shoulder and draped around the left arm. As for colour some of the surviving Egyptian portraits suggest blue, but a bright scarlet red, Olive green and yellow brown are other alternatives. A bleached white cloak might be worn on parades or special occasions.
