Thickness of type B dagger plates

Byron,

To my recollection, they only complete brass pugio is the one from Leew...I do not remember how to spell the rest of the name. All other ones that I am aware of are iron with inlays.

I too do not understand why a reconstruction would be made of brass when in the end the original is in iron.

If I pay a considerable sum, I want what is accurate not an item that was made to look like the original simply because the armorer I hired thinks it is easier if he made it in brass. If you do not want to do it correctly, then turn down the comission.

Thereby a picture of the reconstructed Leeuwendagger together with the original. Original and reconstruction were made of brass. The original has pearlbands that are solded on. It seems that between the bands there was also some decoration solded on, the solder can still be seen, but the decoration is missing

Yes, thanks Maarten.

The only other example I can think of of a copper-alloy type 'A' sheath is discussed (with pictures) in this thread.

The one with straps is the reproduction. The lower one in the photograph is the original. Of course, you knew that already didn't you?
