Although I have not yet used mine for actual anal ablutions, mine is also secured with glue. I just shoved the stick into a sponge hole of an appropriate size after coating the wood with standard white glue. If I ever get to soaking mine in water (or other substances), I'll let you know.

A sponge soaked in vinegar would only make your eyes water. You can get a cream for them.
