New Gallic A
#1
I just received my new Deepeeka Imperial Gallic A and I love it. I have a large head, large enough that the Deepeeka helmets were too snug. But because of the bowl depth and shape, it fits with slight padding. Two things, however. First, I will replace the two "Frankenstein" bolts holding the brow guard in place with either copper or brass dome bolts. Second, I'm not certain how the chin strap is wound. I know that the ends are not tied, but "latched" over the exterior studs on the cheek piece. There are two rings under the neck flange. What's up with that? Also, any Gallic A owners out there figure how to fill in the small but obvious gap between flange and bowl? I'd appreciate your comments.

This one from Nijmegen has bolts all over the place (attaching the browguard and now missing cheek pieces), albeit of a slightly different shape. Just interesting to see, not saying you did anything wrong.

Even more interesting was that one had cupric-alloy wire in the browguard and a brass cabled rim around the bowl edges.

If you need futher explanation or photos, give me a PM.

AFAIK, the latest versions of this helmet 'should' have round-head rivets on the brow guard from now on.

Thanks for the response. I fashioned a strap and it works great. Now, two things. In the future, will Deepeeka do anything to hide the crevice in their helmets between flange and bowl? Do that, and the helms will be near perfect!
Also, as I stated before, I have a large sized head. The bowl of the Gallic A, however, was deep enough to fit me very well. Why doesn't Deepeeka use the same die on their other models, such as the G or C? It would solve many of the size problems, hmmn?

PS Pics coming as soon as I redo the rivets.

Hey Jeff, the area where the bowl meets the neckguard I believe is discussed in a thread over in Marketplace. I hope something is being done with that!

Basically because the Gallic A has it's own bowl pressing due to the unique shape of the helmet. All of the other helmets are pressed on the same die, and hand-hammered to shape.

We will however be using the Gallic A bowl tooling as the basis for the Mainz Gallic I, as the basic shape is the same.
