You can change the page to English, just click the Union Jack flag in the top right corner.

So you changed the page to English, clicked search then typed in what you wanted, when you say you typed it in French where you on the English page? If so you need to type in English.

Do you have any more detailed info regarding the name, as it comes up with loads, I put Battista in the name search then it asked me to select from a list of 30-40 Battistas.

Many, many thanks for your patience and help, Dave Bell - I followed your last post this morning (after sleeping on it ) and this time got a list to chose from ( which didn't happen before - I got 'author unknown', and yes I did check spelling and tried all variations on the name )......et voila !!

As soon as I saw the name "Battista", it rang a bell, and sure enough, 'dats de one !
A laudes for you for your detective work, Jens !
To John:- I have the first three scenes on the site, the carriage, marching troops, and the Emperor and his two mounted attendants - the latter was one of those I attempted to describe. I have about ten other scenes, but not the other ones on the site.
Now what is all this about "steppe saddles" ? Do you mean arched, padded saddles ( similar to modern types ) and are you looking to re-construct one ? If so I would refer you to Rudenko,"Frozen tombs of Siberia" - a number of saddles were found intact in these tombs, of two types, one with low saddle arches, and the other high-arched, with wooden spacers front and back between the cushions. If you want to know more, let me know and we can continue on your 'saddle' thread.
