Metropolitan Museum, NY- major new Greek and Roman galleries
#1
"The spectacular redesign and reinstallation of the Museum’s superb collection of classical art is nearing completion. On April 20, the New Greek and Roman Galleries—which include the dramatic Leon Levy and Shelby White Court—will be unveiled, concluding a 15-year project and returning thousands of works from the Museum’s permanent collection to public view. Some 5,200 objects in more than 30,000 square feet will be displayed, completing the reinstallation of the Met’s exceptional collection of Hellenistic, Etruscan, and Roman art."

Is any RAT person able to give us an update from NY?

Personally, I have been looking for years for better pictures of the full face Gallic helmet in the Levy collection (replica made by Deepeeka)?

Yours (salivating)

I'll be there in late May. If no one else reports first, I'll try to give some updates.

Hmm, I'll be (supposedly) 2hours away from NYC in June and my wife has been begging me to go to the big apple. I might have to give in to her wishes, though she might not be too happy when I tell her that I want to spend the whole time in a museum.

In my experience women are generally unhappy irrespective of what you do - carpe diem. Just make sure you do not let her loose in New York with your credit card! Confusedhock:

I must be one of those rather odd women, who would be dragging the man to a museum....

It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Guess that means I need to take a trip into NYC - I'm only about 1 1/2 hours out by Metro-North from Connecticut. Although I'll probably take the car in.

It is good news! The last time I was in the Museum (a year and a half ago) there was very little on display.

Now, if Yale would just finish up their renovations and reopen the Mithraeum and their other artifacts from Dura Europas to public viewing.

One can only hope Smile
