Difference of Auxilia palatinae and legion palatinae?
#1
Anyone can explain me if there were any differences (recruitment, payment, status)? Or it is only a classification with no real meaning?

I'd say it was! The palatini were originally the troops of the field army attached to the emperor. They had a higher status and retained that, even when posted to regional field armies. Payment was higher, recruitment was originally from other units, later also posts were sold.

Did he mean the difference between the auxilia and legiones rather than the palatinae and the non=palatine troops?
