I am interested in the following three scabbards:
The one that contains an image of Mars that was posted on the ESG website as a reconstruction but it is no longer on their website.
The vindonissa scabbard from the Bishop and Coulston 2 book on page 81. It appears that the design in the middle of the scabbard has stars in it.
Finally, the scabbard that is similar to the Fulham scabbard except that the whole front plate is present. This scabbard I am referring to is in the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, Leiden, Netherlands. Michael Simikins has it in his book "Warriors of Rome" on page 72. Dan Petersons "Roman Legions recreated in color" has it on page 16 in front of the scutum to the right.
If anyone has any pics and information (materials, construction etc) on these scabbards I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Paolo

Paolo,
Is this the Vindonissa scabbard you are referring to?
I haven't bought B&C2 yet on account of my wife promising (and forgetting) to buy it for a birthday present.

I have the rest of the article if you want more.
I am not sure I know the sword with the image of Mars on it and I do not have a good enough picture of the Leiden scabbard to be of any use to you.

Thank you crispus,
Sorry for the late reply. The picture you sent is the one I am interested in from Vindonissa. The mars one I recently obtained a photo of it.
I'll try and see where I can get the leiden one.
Thanks
Paolo

Paolo,
You wouldn't be able to send me a copy of the picture of the 'Mars' scabbard would you?

Crispus I unfortunately do not have the Mars scabbard. It was on the ESG website and I did not download it. They have this scabbard on that Roman coins website. But the picture is at an angle where the decoration is not really visible.
Sorry

Can you be more specific, about MARS scabbard . Pompeii or Fullum. Was it engraved, repusee or cut out. I have made quite afew of the above, and may have a picture in my libary.I am afraid 99% of my collection is old fashioned books and photo copys.

Thanks Brennivs for the response. I believe it is a Fulham. However, if you have other interesting scabbards with Mars, I would also like to see them.
Thanks
