the end of the baldric attaches to the back of the brass circle plate via a apron strap stud turned upside down and peened on the face of the circle.
not saying that this method is period, but it does allow me to remove the scabbard from the baldric easy enough.

well how did i do?

I did something similar to my pompeii gladius baldric Chuck. But I made 3 holes for it, in case it needed adjusting, and I just used a rivet with a larger head.

I was think thinking of making one too...a few questions:

1 - is there a buckle not pictured higher on the strap? If not, how does it adjust?
2- did you make the smaller straps extensions from the main piece of leather, or are they somehow riveted on behind the decorative plate?
3- any other tips you can give me?

I have the same spatha and was thinking about breaking down the sheath, tinning the brass and recovered the scabbard in goat or something...I did it with my deepeeka gladius and with not too much work, I was able to take a lot of the deepeeka-ness out of it!

Thanks!

no, there is no buckle anywhere on this baldric. to adjust it i simply loosen up th eknot around the scabbard and push it back or forward along the narrow leather area. then pull the knot tightly again.

2- did you make the smaller straps extensions from the main piece of leather, or are they somehow riveted on behind the decorative plate?

This is 1 piece of leather. the widest is 2 inchs and the narrow part that goes around the scabbard is 5/8ths of an inch. i cut a small hole in the end of the thin section of leather so the rivet head that is on the back of the circle can pass thru it, holding it firmly to the wide part of the belt.

3- any other tips you can give me?

it was pretty easy. didnt have to sit and think about it too much. altouhg i was shooting for it to go with my late 4thc belt, but have been told that this baldric is more of a 3rdc thing as is my spatha Sad
