11th Legion 68AD?
#1
I was reading about the 11th Legion and according to this website:

http://www.livius.org/le-lh/legio/xi_cl ... delis.html

the 11th was on the Dalmatian coast from 58-68AD. Does anyone know exactly where they were stationed during this period?

It sounds like they might still have been at Burnum?

Salve,
according to Farnum ("The positioning of the Roman Imperial Legions", BAR, 2005), legio XI was at Burnum (modern Kistanje) since 9 a.D until 69 a.D. when it moved to Italy and took part in the Batavian campaign.

The Batavian conflict was in Italy?

Weren't there 2 Leg XI? I,too, always heard Dalmatia,Moesia area, but I'm only a simple soldier and can't disagree with the Emperor

Sorry for my english - I meant they moved to Italy and - then - they took part in the Batavian campaign, (they were then based at Vindonissa).
I think there was only one XI, but I may certainly be wrong.

Osprey Fortress 43 (p.21) says that in AD 70, the fortress at Burnum, vacated by XI Claudia, became the home of IV Flavia.

Exactly, this also is confirmed by Farnum.

This link shows a chart of Legions by number and Emperor.
A google search of Burnum showed some very nice pics of the amphitheater there and a little history. The dates of departure for XI CPF do seem to vary by a year or two.

Sorry,Nero. Your English is fine. I was attempting humor.

Did anyone check my link above, though.Apparently they were there, too
just a bit later.

Osprey Fortress 43 says
(p. 20) "XI Claudia (lately at Burnum) was assigned to Vindonissa" in AD 70
(p. 26) after Trajan takes the legion into Dacia, "it must have seemed wise for that legion to comstruct a new fortress at Durostorum" in AD 106.
