Anyone play Travian?
#1
I might be way behind the times now but does anyone else play Travian? [url:3gfjbgv9]http://www.travian.com[/url]

It's kind of like an interactive Settlers of Catan where you gather resources and build towns. You can start out as a Roman, Gaul, or Teuton.

Kind of fun. I just started but I've built up enough so I can raid nearby towns. Whoo hoo!!

I started playing it too. I love Settlers of Catan and this online version with Romans is quite fun, though the buildings loke more midieval and the romans themselfves look rather Asterix-like

Hi,
I play on a Czech server. But I'm going to end soon. It has become increasingly time consuming and I've even had some unpleasant experience with the game. But yeah, it is interesting and funny game. You will like when your poor farms will begin to beg you for mercy  (although it can also become quite annoying in time  )

I'm looking it over. Ok, looks like it's a slow go at the start. I've started a town, and will check back this afternoon to see what's happened. I suppose when there's more to work with, there's quicker progress. But slow going at the start, is that how it works?

Hi,
yes, the starting phase is very slow. But there will be more to do in the progress. After a few days/weeks you will have an army and you will organize raiding of your neighbours, military and economic support for your allies, war against your enemies, growth of your villages... as I've said earlier, if you will want to keep the pace, it will become very time consuming.

(the alternative scenario is that some strong player in your neighbourhood will be constantly attacking you and draining your resources - then the game can take a little bit different direction, but I've never been in this situation, so I don't know 8) ).

So what happens when you log out, can your village be raided and destroyed while you're doing something mundane, like sleeping or working?

Hi,
yes, of course it can. Many important attacks are planned to arrive at 3-5 AM when it is supposed the defenders sleep and are unable to organize the defence properly.

Well, I'm about to try to move over next door and open a second village. Nobody around me is of any size, so it just might work. I have finally built a barracks. Man, it takes forever. I thought Rome Total War was slow, taking two or three turns. This has taken about six real life days to get to that point.

Oh, well, some marauder will probably move in and raid me to death soon.

It takes three settlers to colonize a square, but so far, I can't generate settlers. Just legionaries.

AT some level of the barracks. There's an FAQ that helps explain some of that building biz. I can't get enough resources to make much of anything. Almost like really building a house or something. Hmph.

Hi,
IIRC you need to have palace or residence on level 10 to build settlers. But that's still quite far future for you (I think). I began to work on my second village when my first village had a population over 300 and I believe most players did so. The first part of game is mainly about making your production higher, building an army to raid you neighbours and get sources from them and perhaps also entering some strong local alliance to help to deter stronger players from raiding your village (but being a member of some alliance can also be a little bit disadvantageous for you - you will probably have to send sources for building alliance embassy and sometimes send some army to help your alliance fellows. If your army isn't at home, you can't raid your neighbours, you have fewer sources. Make your decision carefully. It all depends on your specific situation).
Greetings
