A load of old \'ballocks\' ? :)
#1
Salvete,

I was wondering if anyone knows if there was a Roman era equivalent or precurser of a medieval ballock (or bollock  ) knife ?

www.livinghistory.co.nz/bollock.htm

This dagger, popular from the 13th century was invaluable to archers as it is a good utility knife and also good for digging out arrows.
It was also a valuable weapon for stabbing through visors or gaps in armour.

Are there any references to auxillary archers having similar thin bladed daggers ?

Cheers!

P.S. Any references to knives/ daggers carried by Scythian archers in particular would be really appreciated if you have any

Madam, as for Skythian knifes-daggers there are reference and images both in "Allies Enemies" section and the Reconstruction section if you serch using the word Skythian.
Actually some Skythian daggers have blades similar to the one depicted in the link you provided.

Kind regards
