Salvete,
I was wondering if anyone knows if there was a Roman era equivalent or precurser of a medieval ballock (or bollock  ) knife ?
www.livinghistory.co.nz/bollock.htm
This dagger, popular from the 13th century was invaluable to archers as it is a good utility knife and also good for digging out arrows.
It was also a valuable weapon for stabbing through visors or gaps in armour.
Are there any references to auxillary archers having similar thin bladed daggers ?
Cheers!
