Apulo-Corinthian helmet with cheek pieces
#1
Several reconstruction pics as well as some reconstructions of Apulo-Corinthian helmets I have seen have cheek pieces attached to them. However, all of the originals I have seen do not have cheek pieces, not even rivet holes where cheek pieces may have been attached to them. I wonder where the evidence for such helmets with cheek pieces comes from. Domitius Ara? The officer has such a helmet, but no cheek pieces.
None of the other soldiers have helmets of that type...
Anyone an idea?

No reconstruendum => No reconstruction.

Perhaps the artists figure they must have cheek pieces of some sort, since other contemporary helmets (minus the pilos) have them?
