Help with Trans-Rhine Raids 1stCent AD
#1
Salve!

Would any kind person be able to shine some light for me - I am keen to find out more about Roman punative raids across the Rhine in the Augustan/Tiberian period - what kind of force size, force composition, mission duration, etc. Does anybody know of any primary or secondary sources on this?

Many thanks in advance,

Take a look to Cassius Dio 48,49,3 for the sending of Agrippa through the Rhine.
The loose of Lollius you will find at Sutonius vita of Augustus, 23,1 and Cassius Dio (i think it was 54,19 or 20).
Velleius wrote about it in his second book...i don't remember where exactly and ain't have one of them here.
Tacitus reports in his book 4 (and some others..., to often to mention it all).
Hope that was already a bit help.
If you can german i can advice you "Die römische Germanienpolitik" of Ulrike Riemer.

Maybe this link helps you to a general overview; and this one leads to an article on everything related to the battle in the Teutoburg Forest, including the retaliations.
