Optio equipment

"Datable in second half first century ,Trajanic - Hadrian's times"

Actually, based on the type of belt plates and the presence and length of the apron, along with the fact that he is wearing a dagger, as well as his helmet and crest, I would say that he is securely set in the middle half of the 1st century AD (roughly Claudius to Vespasian). The short greaves seem to jar slightly with the overall image, as we associate them with the Dacian campaigns, but am I right in thinking that the lining from just such a greave was identified from Chichester harbour, which is an invasion period site?

Nice impression though! Am I right in thinking that he is wearing one of Cesar's swords?

Does the crest have tail in the back?

Thanks for the apreciations.

Crest is made by Jose Manuel Pastor, and have some tail in the back. It's heavy... But our optio it's very strong.

The feathers are from black vulture (Aegypius monachus). Regularly those birds change the feathers, and you can find it.

There are near 40 cm long.

How did you manage to acquire black vulture feathers? Is there some sort of online vendor for feathers?

No. Those in particular are a gift from Jose Manuel Pastor, a iberian re-enactor and replicas maker. He get them from the field, in a zone where the vultures goes for fooding, from dead cows or sheeps.

Maybe a visit to your local bird-of-prey centre will be worthwhile?

I did this when I reconstructed the Krefeld 'furry' helmet. They were most helpful!

European eagle feathers would look nice!
