Photos of some dacian and roman items in romanian museums
#16
Actually, I realized it was Romanian rather than Italian, they just look similar since they're both descendants of Latin. The Romanian equivalent of BC/BCE is "a.Chr." and AD/CE is "p.Chr."

Bucharest is in Romania. You're thinking of Budapest. Wink

I want them to find a real tribune helmet for a change!! dammit!

i am still adhering to the theory i have that not all cavalry sports helmets nessecarily have to be from Equites or auxiliary cavalry.....

some might as well have been from higher officers, in my eyes at least!

Funny, I emailed that Bucharest museum asking for pics of their 2nd Century AD crossbraced helm.

No word yet...and I'm not holding my breath...

Hey Romulus, do you have access to this museum? Could you if you're ever there, take some photos of the helmets they have on display? (Particularily one from Trajan's dacian campaigns with cross bracing).

The links are broken. Is that a temporary thing?

The links are down and it seems that there is a problem with their server. It has happened before so they might work again. If not, I'll find them again... Most of those items are from the national museum in Bucharest. I'm in Hunedoara, ~ 400 Km (~ 267 miles) on road, north west from there. I will try to take pictures from all museums I will be able to visit since I had planned a documentation trip this summer.

Great pics, thanks! Laudes from me too.

Can you tell me the date of this helmet, as I can't seem to figure it out (is it BC or AD?).

Looking at the Dacian helmets, everywhere you look at helmets of antiquity there are eyes looking straight back at you!

The description says:
Thracian aristocratic burial, IV century BC. Presently in Braila history museum.
Braila is a river port on the Danube (near the Dabube Delta) in South-East Romania.
