Hi all I did a roman civil war battle matte painting as a proof of concept for something I am working on. Any way I thought I would post it becouse I know most of you like to see these kinds of images. The image is not ment to be perfectly historicaly accurate. Any way let me know what you think. Oh and I will not be able to use it for anything as I did not source the source photos on only public domain images. Any way let me know what you think.
Oh and I might also be doing more of these for a client if any one is interested in being in it.

Hi,
thats very, very, I mean VERY nice, Patrick.
Just a thought - wouldn't a watch tower be a little bit impractical in the middle of a forest?
Really wonderful image, thanks for sharing.
Greetings

Thanks glad you all like it. If I decide to do another one I will let the forum know and you guys can help out if you like.
As far acuracy as I said its not really made to be historical acurate exactly. So the image was made more to be artist. The tower is there becouse it makes the composition etc work better. And yes I had thought the same thing. Normaly towers are away from any trees so they can be defended. Also the trees would be cut down to make it
For the axes I figure a lot is possible if you take into account every auxiliary unit they could have possibly used. Oh and the reason I mentioned civil was is becouse the Romans seem to be fighting each other.
As for the helmet I really had nothing in mind.

Oh and I am not sure where I found the watch tower image. I used a lot of photos I had collected that I was not sure about sources on any more. I figured it was ok for the portfolio but I would never try to sell it of course.
Also glad everyone likes the mood. I spend a lot of time trying to get it just right.

Well maybe Auxiliary is the wrong term. Did the romans not ever fight with an alley?

Oh also if any one wants to use the image on a website thats fine. But remember I can not pass on a real copyright aproval as I was not carefull with the source material. But for private websites it probobly will not matter. Also it would be nice if you included a link back to my site.

Well honestly most of the images are from one public domain source or another. Most of the rest are probobly from people that visit this forum. Thats one reason I posted it here. Its also why I was up front about the source material.
