strap discs for something better, and the terminals! I have seen a couple of different styles that are interesting, but not sure if good for our period.

Yes, Holger Ratsdorf's website has very nice components. He also gives find sites and dates too.

What period are you wanting to do? Invasion period? post 70AD/Flavian?

Nodge doesn't have a website nor does he advertise. It's all by word of mouth as he is always inundated with work! I have some pics of some of the things he makes if you're interested or tempted!

Yes. The grip plates are unfortunately cast bronze. These I silvered.

The scabbard had plain innacurate suspension loops, so I replaced them with the type B loops you can see in the photograph. It also didn't have a rivet on the terminal expansion, so I added that. (I believe Len puts them in now) I silvered the scabbard too.

Avete,

Here are some pics of my latest balteus. It is a dark, blood red, with brass fittings that have been wholly or partially tinned.

Very nice belts guys!

The selective tinning is a really nice contrast Edge.

John, those apron terminals are lovely, did you make them yourself?

"It's innacurate in that it is a Type 'A' scabbard with Type 'B' suspension rings! I did this before I knew better!"

My fault. I should reply to e-mails as soon as I read them rather than waiting several weeks. However, that said, there is a type 'A' sheath from Vindonissa which appears to have been fitted with type 'B' suspension. Admittedly not type 'B' rings but it does lay open the possibility of the existence of one like yours.

"It also didn't have a rivet on the terminal expansion, so I added that. (I believe Len puts them in now)"

Isn't it amazing what handing someone around 200 pages of pictures and articles can achieve?

???? What plates are these?

I agree! I sometimes get very envious when he walks by. Never fear though. In about ten years I will have finished all of the things I am currently working on and will look just as good!

No pictures of my belt for the time being because the current one is old and embarrassing. I really do need to get to work on the new ones.

Thanks, Peroni :!:

Means a lot coming from you -- I got into this hobby just last August, so every day I learn a little more. You and the guys I see here each day are my inspiration -- although my wife is amazed at how much little bits of metal can cost.

So, please keep posting your incredible work since guys like me are the beneficiaries.

I love this stuff.

Peroni,

Those were made for me and the original example is in the private collection of the maker.

Actually, these are terminals, not plates Crispus. I am pretty sure I saw these on the replikate site, or the one Peroni mentioned! They caught my eye, as well as a couple of others!
would be nice on a cingulum. 8) Hopefully this link will work!

Gosh! What a lot of helmets!

"And figure out why I want to alter it!"

Would it have anything to do with apron studs with rivets passing through them?

Give this man a cigar! Got it in one! I think it looks tacky, and it didn't appear so obvious in the website when I ordered it! So many mistakes, so little time........ Sad Still, hopefully new shiny bits will help!

Anyway, I'm off to Egypt in the morning so I am off for a while, Hope to chat again when I get back!

Thanks for the advice everyone and nice belts! See you at Saturnalia, with any luck!

There's an example shown in Bishop "The early imperial apron" 1992
which appears to have rivet which passes through the disc.
