Quote:Great kit, I'd like to see a closer look to your helmet.

Thanks very much. I'll send you a link when I get a picture taken of it. Its an older Deepeeka AH6715 heavy cavalry helmet that I modified. I tore out all the leather lining because it was junky and replaced it with a quilted linen lining stuffed with wool batting. I replaced the junky edging with deerskin. I cut down the neck flap by at least a third, dished the cheek pieces so they actually fit and put a ridge in the nose guard so it wasn't just flat. I makes it at least passable.

Cheers,

The Kalkriese belt plates look like a type B plate in use much later than AD 9 (?)

Crispvs??

Perhaps they belonged to one of the soldiers in Germanicus' force that discovered the site and buried the bones!?

OK - here is my belt made with components purchased from Armamentaria and made by Nodge Nolan. The exception is the rectangular brass plate at the top of the straps which was made by me.

...and here is the other end including the lucky phallus strap end ( a free gift from Peronis Big Grin ).

Ahhh, done with my belt (for the moment)! I didn't base it on any one gravestone in particular, just read Legio XX's site on belts and gleaned more info from MC Bishop's article. And here on RAT, of course Smile

Made the frogs from sheet brass, but now I know why they were made to be riveted under a plate. Have to fix that sometime.

And the buckle, made by following Jared Fleury's advice on his website.

I'll probably be doing some tweaking and improvements as I get more tools and skill with small bits of metal. But on the whole, I'm happy with it. Not a masterpiece of fine art, but it doesn't need to be. I won't be portraying anyone who could afford such Big Grin Thanks again, everyone who chimed in with advice.
