legionary breeches
#1
ave my rat brethern,

making a pair of these breeches.
what appears to be the correct length is just below the knee.
yet if i set down they pull up pass my knee and i have to push them down. Cry
if i make them long enough to prevent the rise when setting then the length is mid calf clownish looking
is there a tie at the knee to adjust for fit?
any help would be appreciated!

Ah, I know exactly what the problem is. You need to make the waist line higher at the back so that the seat is fuller. I don't have a good illustration, unfortunately, but 18th century breeches are done this way because they fasten at the knee.

Instead of the waist being a straight line all around, angle it upwards starting at the sides, to add 4 inches or so at the center back. You can kind of do it in a smooth curve, like a wide bell-curve. If your trousers are already done, I would unstitch the top (however you've done it) and sew on an extra piece in that bell-curve shape to the back. Then re-hem or whatever, and it should work.

Good luck!
