One day, somebody will dig up a nice piece of silvered or tinned copper-alloy Roman military equipment and NOT claim it as an officer's or centurion's property without an inscription to back such a hyperbolic assertion.

It gets better. I bought the mag yesterday, and there's a lovely square belt plate dated to Augustan period (27 BC - AD 14), with a very nice relief of Minerva with what looks to be an eagle. And as if you couldn't guess:
"A military decoration adorned with Minerva... was likely worn by a high ranking officer."

Hmmmm that helmet sure is nice! Is it Celtic? Is it REAL?
Must have been worn by a high ranking chieftainnnn.........
But seriously, it is in amazing condition, and that one sword seems to have a greenish patina, is it bronze or just a trick of the light?

Nice pics Tarbicus

It is real but i think that the bowl is a modern incert and that only the rim. kneck guard and cheek pieces are origibnal. I believe it dates to 1st century BC.

The sword would be iron judging by the style.

I am not 100% convinced that the Minerva plate is a belt plate. It might be of course, but I know of no other belt plate like that and it could easily be something else, such as a furniture mount. Do you know if the holes are pierced by rivets or nails? Also, is there any indication of washers or roves?
