I do not question any ones beliefs that give answers to the questions of his soul.
Perhaps I did not expressed my self correctly but I do not think I contradicted the last sentences of your post.
The strength and courage given by the divinity to the believers to overcome a difficulty comes to the new generations a good dose of hyperbol.
Disaproval of religious authorities is a factor to be counted and most people will follow it despite the fact that Jim mentioned "Science has nothing to do with faith".
It is my personal opinion that religious authorities do not like "cold science" to demystify aspects of the religion and that this attitute is not restricted in any particular religion.
