notitia shield pattern

Found the article!

Van Daele, Bernard, 2002, Pieces of Roman military equipment in a Roman cellar at the Bemelerveld in Maastricht (The Netherlands), in: JRMES 12/13 2001/2002. 109-115.

Unfortunately I have been mistaken - not a trace of an umbo. Just
[p.109]
"two copper alloy fragments of a shield rim that protected the edges of a wooden shield. The bigger piece measures 5,4 cm with a width of 1,7 cm (doubled up). This fragment contains two hole through which the rivet nails had to pass in order to fix them rim to the shield edge.
[p.110]
"The smaller piece has an irregular shape of about 1 cm2 and also shows a pierced hole for a nail. Four possible rivet nails belonging to the rim were also found in the same context. They were approximately 1,5 cm long with a round head of 7,5 mm diameter."

There is also an image (Nr. 4) on page 112, but the scanner here is causing trouble, sorry Sad

If it is really necessary, I could scan the sketch in the central building sometime within the next days.
