Persian Fire by Tom Holland
#1
HI guys
in this period of the year I travel alot and manage to read much.
I just started "Persian Fire by Tom Holland, the same author of the exciting "Rubicon: the triumph and tragedy of the roman republic".

The book tells the persian wars but does so starting an in-depth characterization of the Persian empire! The Preface is brave too.

I am hooked on this new book and enthusiastically recommend it even though I started it only two hours ago!!
Holland is a huge talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greetings!

I have read both books and recommend them highly. Smile

Rubicon is, I think, the better of the two, however Holland's sojourn into ancient Persian history was fascinating and gives much needed (and too often overlooked) background information to the Greek-Persian wars.

Both books are "fast" reads, full of fascinating details and side notes that add considerable enjoyment.

These are worthy additions to any bookshelf.
