Kalkriese object
#1
Hi

Saw this object found at Kalkriese http://www.geschichte.uni-osnabrueck.de ... 2/12f.html
[Image: Schaede3.jpg]

It is described as a "Schaedelkalotte" (beyond my German vocab...). It looks to me a bit like a shoulder guard, but not to a design I recognise- any ideas?

Cheers

Caballo

It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Ave Caballo,

that's a kind of 'natural' headgear. no part of the kit, but of the wearer himself Confusedhock:

The text line is about bones and human remains. Schädelkalotte means dome of the skull (Schädel = skull, Kalotte = calotte or flat dome).

But no hint, whether it was a Roman or barbarian.

I would have been even faster if I hadn't spent some time trying to recall my rusty German

Ave Aitor,

dont think too deep.
Some blown away skull domes may indicate an overloaded brain.
Last though of the Cheruscian owner of the find:
'What the heck is 'Romans surrender, we've got you!' called in Latin?'
